ProjectEntrepreneurship training for alumni of the German-Arab Master's Programme (GAMP)

Project Context

GIZ has run the German-Arab Master’s Programmes (GAMP) for 10 years. Many GAMP alumni develop their own businesses based on the knowledge and experience they gain in the course of their studies. The alumni's business ideas and start-ups are at different stages of development; however, all of them face questions regarding the design, operationalisation or financing of their companies.

Project Objectives

The goal of the training was to apply tools and methods for developing and improving business concept, provide space for peer-to-peer exchange, gain insights and inspiration from Berlin’s start-up scene and, ultimately, discuss the potential of the business cases for sustainable, social innovation in the MENA-Region. A subsequent online coaching phase ensured that the alumni receive tailored and individual inputs for their business development.

Project results

The training took place in Berlin from the February 26 to March 2, 2018.

18 GAMP Alumni who have started their own business or have developed a business idea attended the training week. They received training on tool like the “Business Model Canvas”, the “Business Map”, created a “Persona” and a “Customer Journey”, learned about different Sales strategies, approaches to partnership and different strategies on how to finance a business.

They also went on a one-day tour to meet Berlin-based entrepreneurs, from the fields of energy, trade and internet platforms, to learn how other entrepreneurs have designed and operationalised their companies.

The final day was dedicated to networking: after a meeting to the German-Arab Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Endeva and the German Association of Small and Medium-Sized Companies organised a networking event among companies, investors and organisations working in the field of social entrepreneurship and in the MENA region.
